Gaiman packs so much into each volume that you can't possibly get it all in one go. I notice new things and make new connections every time I reread the series.Memoryhttp://xicanti.livejournal.com/noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22449400.post-73998813615943971432009-04-20T14:25:00.000-05:002009-04-20T14:25:00.000-05:00Totally agree about Pfeffer's book. I agree that sometimes doctors are too quick to diagnose and medicate. I think it is the second one that I have a bigger problem with--the overmedicating, especially hyper kids. And may you have loads of fun!

Chris,
Thank you so much! You left tears in my eyes. And like I told Ana above, I thought of both of you while reading this...I'm convinced you both would really enjoy it!

Carl,
You know what? I think you did tell me that before, but I'd totally forgotten. Each chapter coincides with one of the graphic novel collections, if recollection serves, and so you can actually read each section after reading that section of the graphic novel and it reveals so very much. I would certainly recommend it for your next read through at the very least. It is a great resource and very well written.

http://www.amazon.com/Sandman-Companion-Dreamers-Award-Winning-Graphic/dp/1563896443/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1240029793&sr=8-1Carl V. I hate that "normal" has become such a specific perception these days. You're absolutely right...there is no "normal". Each child is different, and to each their own. You care for your child how they are regardless of if they're diagnosed with anything or not. I always tell parents, treat the symptoms, not the disease. And I love that last sentence...Gray is Gray :D And he rocks ;)

I must get my hands on that book though!! There's something about kids with autism/aspergers/developmental delays/etc. That just touches my heart and I've always loved being around them. It's like they see a part of the world that's not available to all of us...I almost feel more connected with them sometimes. And I've never been diagnosed with any of that! lol. But it's one of the reasons I went into my field...I get something out of it too...I just enjoy their company.

Ok..that's a ridiculously long rant :p But I also wanted to tell you that I'm thrilled that you enjoyed The Dead and the Gone! Wasn't it excrutiating though? So sad...She's finishing up the new one now and I think it combines the two books!chrisa511https://www.blogger.com/profile/05793512698366676453noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22449400.post-13277332447860968262009-04-17T20:59:00.000-05:002009-04-17T20:59:00.000-05:00I see you're all prepared for the read-a-thon tomo...I see you're all prepared for the read-a-thon tomorrow! She spends almost a whole chapter talking about folktales, which I know on the surface might sound odd considering what the book is about, but the points she was making were really quite interesting.
And I KNOW you agree 100%! One of the bazillion reasons I love you so much! When you wrote your first "issue" weekly geeks I know I cried. All I could think was "Yes! Someone who would accept Gray for who he is, eccentricities and all!"Debihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15429881953804634592noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22449400.post-70208256862997206322009-04-17T16:15:00.001-05:002009-04-17T16:15:00.001-05:00I can't tell you how much I enjoyed your "babble",...I can't tell you how much I enjoyed your "babble", Debi! You made me want to read wach and every one of these books RIGHT NOW. Yes, even the one I've already read. I want to read it again.

You know, unbelievable as it might sound, The Sandman DOES manage to be even more enjoyable the second time around. Seasons of Mists is one of my favourites too. And World's End. And The Kindle Ones. And and and...okay, enough now :P

Also, I loved your final paragraph. You know I'm 100% with you when it comes to those things. Diagnosing autism and other conditions early IS important, but I do think that "normal" is being defined more and more narrowly. And that worries me.Ana S.https://www.blogger.com/profile/16092495983972185943noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22449400.post-85033928375971151012009-04-17T16:15:00.000-05:002009-04-17T16:15:00.000-05:00Scrap Girl,

I really think you'll enjoy Life As We Knew It...but it just might scare the crap out of you like it did me. :)

Fyrefly,
I was so hoping to get the next one yesterday at the library, but it wasn't in. I'm just so eager to see where it's headed next.

Eva,
Okay, how pathetic is this...I'm not even sure I've read 37 books yet this year!
