I cannot stand to have dirty dishes in the sink. Just can't stand it. (No, I don't have a dish washer.) This means I generally wash dishes three or four times a day. (Sometimes more, if I've been baking or something; sometimes less, if we go out to eat.)
Anyway, the thing I don't understand, is why I do not carry this obsession over into the drying stage. It simply does not bother me in the slightest to leave the clean dishes stand in the dish rack to dry on their own. I generally don't put them away until it's time to cook again.
Why is my "anal retentiveness" so selective?

because dirty is icky. clean is ok. =)
I'm totally and completely the same way. I do have a dishwasher but still washes dishes a couple of times a day. I only use the dishwasher for glasses, silverware and plates. I handwash everything else and leave it out to dry, in either the dish drainer, or on a clean towel on the counter. I love to wash them but detest drying them :)
I'm with you. I don't have a dishwasher either. I always leave my dishes to dry. It is more sanitary I hear to let them air dry. My deal with DH is whoever cooks dinner does not wash dishes. I cook 99.9999% of the time.
As a child my punishment for doing anything wrong was to wash the dishes for long a month at a time!
take care,
Dawn
You've just made me awfully jealous, Dawn! Rich NEVER does the dishes! And as a kid, I ALWAYS had to do the dishes...it was just one of my jobs.
