where has the summer gone?!!

I simply can't believe we're nearing the end of July already! How can this possibly be?!!

Rich was saying just last night that we really need to stop planning so many big projects for the summer and start relaxing and enjoying it instead. Sounds good, but how to put that idea into practice is the trick.

Take, for example, homeschooling prep. Since we can't really afford any pre-made curriculum, and haven't found any that we really love and would suit our purposes anyway, I tend to do most of it myself. The problem with that is that is takes time...lots and lots of time. Summer is the time to get as much prepared ahead as I possibly can.

And, of course, summer is the time for outdoor projects. There's just no fighting the weather, right?

And this summer, we're working on switching what seems to be half the house around. Moving my scraproom in with our "classroom". Moving Annie to the soon-to-be old scraproom. Moving Max into the room Annie now has. Annie's "new" room will need to be painted and whatnot. And we promised Gray that we will also paint his room once we get Max moved out of there. The bathroom also desperately needs painted. Again, painting is best done in the summer when you can keep the window open.

Add in the kids' summer projects...soccer 4 nights a week, flute lessons, writing "camp", taking care of the school garden for a week...

Now, here comes the question people...how do you find the time to relax and do the things you enjoy during the summer? I know darn well we're not the only ones who are incredibly busy. Heck, some of you are probably a lot busier than we are. So how do you do it? How do sneak in time for the things you love and the things that keep you sane? I really need some tips from some of you out there who actually have their act together.

Now over about the last two weeks, I did manage to steal 2 minutes here and 5 minutes there, etc. to complete a single layout. One. And I don't even like it. (Though I do really, really love the picture of Rich and Maxidoodle!)

You know, I suppose one obvious answer would be to stop blogging, but please don't ask me to do that!

Ya know, Debi, I really like it! It appears as if the 2 of them are standing behind a fence and looking at the animals. :o)

As for busy stuff in the summer. I have always been a laid back person. I do not enjoy *doing and going* all the time. I've never been fond of extra-curricular activities. I know, it sounds like we live under a rock. We don't though. :o) I've just never made it a point to continuously *do*. I think my homebody self (LOL) and keeping the kids on a schedule/routine has not allowed me to stay busy in the way you're speaking. I do stay busy, though, LOL. Don't want ya thinking I sit home and eat bon bons all day ... for goodness sakes, I don't even like chocolate. LOL!

We're a lot like you Debi! The funny thing is, we are getting ready to do a MAJOR overhaul on our basement bedroom to get it ready for Hannah to move down there. And once she moves, Bridget and Jacob are switching rooms. There is always too much to do around here, and not enough time. And, like you, I can't imagine giving up the blog!

I know what you mean Debi, time flies and I either feel so incredibly productive... or so not. With Iz's therapy schedule it keeps me moving and I find it hard to fit big projects in between. I just try to do things fast. I would love to hire a housekeeper to do the silly things that anyone could do...
When I'm faced with a really crazy day and not enough energy to get up I repeat Phil 4:13 and it all seems to get done with God's help.

The summer has flown by hasn't it! And with kids at home I always thought it went way too fast. Sounds like y'all have got some major projects going on, hope you're taking lots of pics to share.

I think that blogging qualifies as something that can keep you sane. Plus there is no way you can stop - I would miss you too much!

I have no advice for slowing down...as soon as I feel like I have some down time or can relax a bit, it seems like I jump right back into the chaos. I sometimes think I am some kind of adrenaline junkie or something and that running around like a totally crazy person is the only way I keep from dropping from exhaustion!

I don't have any answers, but I have to say the summer seems to fly by no matter what! We simply don't do a lot of extra stuff. This summer, we've spent a few weekends at the lake, but really not much else. I'm always busy with stuff around the house, and it's flown by without any major stuff even getting done! I don't like to be on the go very much, and CJ honestly hasn't had much interest in extra curricular type stuff, so we really don't do a whole lot. Basketball starts soon - and he will do that, which will take up some of my time, but I'm really big about not over scheduling.

That said, I still don't seem to have time to get everything done. I wish there was a magic trick to getting it all done! And yeah, giving up blogging is not an option for me either!!
