I was going to wait until tomorrow to post about this, but I was just visiting my sweet friend Melissa's blog, and it just got me too inspired to wait. During her smile-inducing Good News Sunday post, she said a quick thank you to those who signed up to be a part of Bloggers for Locks of Love. Annie has been growing her hair for quite some time for the sole purpose of donating it to Locks of Love, so naturally she signed up to join Melissa and her daughter.
I've been quite proud of Annie for persevering in this endeavor. I know there were times when she really just wanted to give up. In a way, I guess that sounds kind of silly...I mean how hard is it to just let your hair grow, huh? But Annie's hair is thick. Really, really thick. You can tell it's thick by looking at it, but it's not until you "play" with it, that you get an appreciation of just how thick it is. Not a single person who has ever dealt with her hair has failed to mention it. I tell her that one day she'll actually be happy about this fact, but let's just say that day hasn't yet arrived. What this thick hair has meant to her is literally 20-30+ minutes of agony each morning trying to comb it out. She hated it...yet still she refused to give up.
And good for her! Friday was the big pay-off...
14 inches of hair that will hopefully one day soon make some other sweet little girl feel a bit happier.
And Annie absolutely loves her new look! (I think it's adorable, too, but then I'm her mom so I think it psychologically impossible for me to feel any other way.)
So anyway, good job, Annie...and enjoy your new look!

She looks beautiful!! I love it! And good for her for doing Locks for Love. What an incredible person that girl is...seriously. That must be rewarding :)
First of all, you aren't the only sap around. This literally brought tears to my eyes. That has to be one of the sweetest things I've ever heard of. That girl is something special!!
And the new look is absolutely fab!! I posted a big thank you to Annie on her blog. My little package was received this week, and I absolutely loved it!
Glad you are back online too. I've missed you this week!
You've got a keeper, Debi! :)
Wow! One look at that braid tells me just how thick her hair is! And it's beautiful, too. The new 'do is very cute and sophisticated, too.
I agree with Chris - Annie is a truly remarkable young lady.

What a great kid to do that! She's sure a special one. Love the new hair-do. She looks very grown up and sophisticated.
Way to go, Annie! What dedication! What love! And what a nice new hairdo!
Younger son Steve has said that if he ever does get his hair cut (he does get it trimmed twice a year), he will donate it to Locks of Love. At the same time, though, he says he never does plan to cut it. Perhaps graduating from college and going on the job market will change that, but since he's been growing it out since fourth grade, well, he's pretty used to its being long. His hair, like Annie's is oh so thick, as well as curly.
Annie looks beautiful! And it's so great that she did that...she never ceases to amaze me!
Annie looks great, Debi! You must be so proud of her.
Way to go, Annie! :)
WOW! That is A LOT of hair!! Good job, Annie!!
I will put her on the "Made the Cut" list. :-)
Oh how wonderful, what a great and selfless thing she has done! I can't wait to show K the pictures!!
Adorable, she is adorable! I love her new haircut, especially from the back. And this made me teary too, just thinking about kids doing this. I think I've run across several in our area lately, kids, that are growing their hair out for locks of love and I think that's such a neat thing.
well done annie!
with all the good deeds she does she should get herself a cape and red boots!
She is so stylin'! Looks alot like my 15 year old daughter's cut. Very cool. And even more cool that she was generous enough to sacrifice the annoyance to benefit others. I'm proud of her and I imagine you are full to bursting! Good job!
what a wonderful thing Annie did!.. but I guess nothing she does surprises you anymore lol..
They did a great job on the haircut they gave her! I bet she's doubly happy to have it cut and do look so good for doing it!
What a cute new look! And a great cause too. That is so awesome that she persevered like that. I bet she'll love the feeling of her hair being gone!
Good for Annie! I almost donated my hair once, but I would have had to cut it pretty short (much shorter than Annie's cute cut!), and I was afraid of having to do that "ugly stage while your hair goes from being really short to long again" thing, so I chickened out. I wish it would grow a little bit longer so I could donate it without suffering the short short hair cut, but it just kind of stops growing at a certain length. =/ Maybe I'll be a little more selfless by the next time I get my hair cut...and I'll actually go through with it!
And can I just say, my hair is terribly thin...so I'm, uh... so jealous!
Way to go, Annie!
Debi, I feel like every time I read one of your posts I find something else we have in common. My daughter Laura has the thickest hair I've ever seen - I truly think she might have Annie beat in this category, looking at the pics of Annie before the cut - to top it off her hair is quite wavy. I hear you on the 20-30 minute battles of the hair. However, unlike Annie, Laura is very resistant to the idea of giving up her hair. I showed her this post and am hoping she will eventually tire of the battles and follow in Annie's footsteps!
I've said it before and I'll say it again Debi - that's one SPECIAL girl you have there! Wow!
And the new look is awesome! She looks absolutely adorable (And quite grown up!)
Love it!
Bloglines wasn't working, so I didn't see this post until now. How cool of Annie! I can see how thick her hair is by that huge braid she's holding up-wooow! When I was younger I had medium thick hair, but after puberty it's been on the thin side (although it's been steadily thickening for the past couple years).
That new look is so complimentary and stylish-go Annie!
What a wonderful thoughtful thing to do! She looks darling in her new "do". I'm sure you are beyond proud of her!
take care,
Dawn
WAy to go, Annie!! I made the cut recently, and it feels SO GOOD to be able to share something of myself. To be so giving at a young age is incredible...
