in the mail this week...

Almost let Monday get by without doing Mailbox Monday. Just been a tad overwhelmed lately, which is also why I'm soooooo far behind on my blog reading. But I thought I'd better squeeze this in as once again I have a few of points to award.

Two points for Nymeth! Her review of Fun Home by Alison Bechdel made it irresistible! It's an added bonus that I can use it for the Lambda Challenge. And I've had Middlesex by Jeffrey Eugenides on my wish list for such a long time, simply because Nymeth loves it so much and she has yet to steer me wrong.

The blame for Interpreter of Maladies by Jhumpa Lahiri goes to NPR. I'm afraid they're to blame for a lot of books on my wish list, so heck, why not let them in the game, right? I'm sure they'd be glad to get a little more of our money should they win.

The Ha-Ha by Dave King and Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe don't earn anyone points, but they are further proof that I'm giving Paperback Swap quite a workout lately.

I was reading the other night and Rich (who is NOT a reader at all) just couldn't believe that I was reading for fun!!! Just how many books do you have in your "to read" pile?

take care,
Dawn

I have The Ha-Ha on my TBR shelf. You can read it first and let me know if I need to pick up asap. :)

First of all, I'm sorry to hear things have been overwhelming lately :( I really hope they get better soon.

Secondly, yay, you got my favourite book ever :D Fun Home is great too. I think you'll enjoy them both. Also, I love Lahiri's stories! She's such a great writer. And Things Fall Apart has been on my wishlist for ages. I look forward to your thoughts on all of them!

Middlesex is a great book! I read it, uh, either last year or the year before. I can't remember which right now! I REALLY liked it, though. The Virgin Suicides, also by him, is good too. :)

What a great list Debi!! Middlesex is one that's been sitting on my shelf for farrrrrr too long. Maybe we should read it together and post reviews together! I read Things Fall Apart in High School and absolutely hated it :/ But so many people love it, so maybe I should give it another try. I hated most of my "required reading" in high school. And The Ha Ha will count for the Dewey Challenge too!!! I'm reading it for that one!

Steve had to read Things Fall Apart for 10th grade English and pretty much gave it a huge thumbs down. Not that you and a 15-year-old boy should have similar tastes, but consider yourself warned.

GREAT stack of books! I enjoyed Middlesex and Things Fall Apart--for very different reasons. I hope to get my hands on Interpreter of Maladies soon.

ah, mailbox bookies! :D

i read "things fall apart" at university and then taught it some years later.

i really enjoyed it - although it can be difficult for some to get into. its a very different narrative voice from the one we're used to. whats particularly good about it, for me, is the insight it gives one on nigerian culture (and african culture as a whole to some degree).

i'm jealous of your "fun home"! i've been wanting to read it for ages!!

I read Things Fall Apart in high school and while I wasn't enthusiastic about it (probably because I was forced to read it) it wasn't bad. I liked it. I'll be interested to see if you do!

Oh, I wish I'd known you wanted to read Middlesex! I'm trying to pare down my book collection and recently decided I was never going to read my copy, so I donated it. Darn, I'd have preferred to "donate" to you. I think I've got Things Fall Apart, but I'm not sure.
