paying for my "week of lazy"

I just made myself do the dreaded deed...click the "mark as read" button. I tried so hard to catch up, but it was keeping me from getting all the things I need to be doing done. Seriously, you people are as addictive as any drug known to humankind! So, while I thoroughly enjoyed my "week of lazy," I am definitely now paying the price.

And because I have so many other things demanding my attention, I'll make today's book babble short and sweet. One of the books I managed to read last week a scrapbooking book. I used to buy just about every scrapbooking book printed, but I've been a bit better lately. Rich bought me a few for Christmas, and I thought last week was the perfect time to sit down and indulge myself with one.

That's Life: Finding Scrapbook Inspiration in the Everyday by Nic Howard.

To be perfectly honest, I was a little disappointed with this book. But not because it was a bad book or anything. Instead, it was just that Nic Howard's philosophy of what memories are worth saving is pretty much identical to mine. We both seem to be firm believers in the idea that while it's great to record the big events (holidays, birthdays, etc.) in scrapbooks, what's really even more meaningful is the everyday. Recording the personalities, the quirks, the passions, the frustrations of those we love. So like I said, it's really not that I didn't like the book, it's just that she was preaching to the choir here.

All that said, I believe this would be a great book for anyone somewhat new to scrapbooking. It would certainly be perfect for someone who tends to be an events-only scrapper, but would like to spread their wings a bit. And this book does include a lot of gorgeous layouts. And one can never have too many layouts to look at, can one?

And hey, guess what! I've got a spare copy to give away! I really shouldn't embarrass Rich by mentioning this, but he accidentally bought me two copies of this book for Christmas. And he wrapped both and put them under the tree, never realizing. :) Anyway, if you're interested, just say so. If more than one person speaks up, I'll draw a winner over the weekend. (Well, over the weekend, if I remember...hopefully shortly thereafter if I don't.)

SO! (you said to just say so) :) That's Life: Finding Scrapbook Inspiration would be a great book for me because I hate to admit that I'm mainly an event scrapper. :( When I first started paper scrapping (I now like digital scrapping), I wanted a theme, so events played right into that. I really need to make an effort and find the time to scrap life, not just events. However, I concentrate when I'm scrapping (do you?), so it's harder to listen to a book. I do not want to give up my reading/listening time, so I guess I have to practice until it works.

And since I've never tried scrapping except in or on fabric, I'll throw my name into the hat, too.

lol! You know, buying the same book twice and not even realizing it sounds just like something Mathie would do. He always feels terrible about that kind of thing, so I'm going to show him this post.

I'm a firm believer in the importance of everyday memories too, so I'll leave the giveaway for those who still need persuading :P

My mom and I go through phases. We will go an entire month and scrapbook all the time, and then we will take months off! It would be neat to read a scrapping book. We haven't read any!

Hmmm...looks like there will be a drawing. :P I'd love to be entered. I have a ton of scrapbooking stuff/supplies/etc but I'm overwhelmed and don't know where to start (should I start with the last "event" or roll of pictures and work backward or start with 2005 when I transitioned from single lady to couple lady or go all the way back to when I first got a camera? See why I have boxes full of supplies and haven't started yet!!!

I'll stop blabbing. Mark that Read All. I'm getting much better at not feeling so guilty about it. hope you are able to get caught up quickly.

That's hilarious that he *wrapped* them both and didn't notice. It sounds like something my dad would do, lol. I'm not going to enter the drawing, but good for you marking all read! Book blogs are ridiculously addictve. ;)

I've never tried book scrapping... it sure sounds like fun!

Like you, I think keeping records of our everyday's life is more meaningful instead of focusing on big events only. I want to be reminded of my life as I grow older, and I think by doing so will bring me back all the wonderful memories!

I'll pass on the scrapbook book ;) Not really my thing. I did want to let you know though that you're not alone...after just 3 days of being away from blogging I hit the Mark All as Read button! I just hate that...
