oh my

I had a horrifying revelation inside my little brain this morning. I've signed up for something like 40,000 reading challenges for the year. (Okay, yeah, it's really more like 30 or something, but it feels like 40,000.) Anyway, the revelation hit when I read this. Yes, the lovely Becky announced this year's It's the End of the World (As We Know It) Reading Challenge. I love, love, love apocalyptic/post-apocalyptic novels, and there is simply no chance I won't be signing up for this challenge. None. This is one of my favorite challenges. Which got me thinking about some of my other favorite challenges. Which made me realize that those 40,000 (or 30-ish, if you want to get technical about it) challenges I've already signed up for don't even include four of my very favorite challenges of all! No, I still have The End of the World, Once Upon a Time, The Non-Fiction Five, and RIP to add to this year's challenge list.

When am I ever going to learn the art of self-restraint?

If you love 'em, they won't be painful. But, you'll be awfully busy!

I agree with Bellezza -- if you enjoy challenges, you'll be fine. Just have fun with them!

I'm a challenge flunkie, so I just made myself a button, this week. Peek at my sidebar. I'm not 100% Un-challenged. Ah. Refreshing.

Some of my favorite challenges aren't yet either. I love the Spring REading Thing, Once Upon a Time, and R.I.P of course :)

There are worst things you could be addicted to! As long as you have fun while doing so, you really have no worries. :)

Yep, there are worse addictions :P And let me remind you again that there is no challenge police! You'll be fine.

I resisted the End of the World Challenge last year, but I'm really not sure if I can again.

No time for blogging - you must read, read and read more! Enjoy your challenges - you obviously picked them because you like the books that fit those categories. It is only the beginning of March, so you have loads of time!

I have no restraint either so don't feel too bad!!!

You can do what I do and just make lists and not officially sign up for any (including my own so far). I have every intention of signing up for a few, but all I have right now are lists.

But when you already have 40,000 challenges, what's another 4?? :P
40,004 doesn't seem that much bigger than 40,000. Not helping, I know.

You could treat signing up for a challenge the way I treat a major purchase. Give yourself two weeks. Do you still think the challenge is interesting and you want to do it? / Do you still really "need" the item in question? If yes, then sign up / make the purchase. I can't tell you how many things I haven't bought because of this rule, taught to me by a friend when I was just out of grad school and thinking about buying a kayak. (Yes, I bought it, but after two weeks.) Of course, as someone else so sagely put it, there are no challenge police (just as there are no quilt police for me to contend with), so if you want to, go for it.

Self-restraint is over-rated!

What you need to do is develop the art of cross-challenge reading! For example, anything you read for the End of the World challenge would certainly also fit in the 42 Challenge and so on! You could probably have every book you read for Once Upon a Time or for RIP count for some other challenge as well!

Multi-tasking!!! :)

Sometimes it does feel like I've signed up for that many challenges too. LOL As long as you are having fun with them, that's all that matters. :-)
