What is it about grandparents? That relationship between grandchild and grandparent seems to be nothing short of magical.
At least for the lucky kiddos out there. I was blessed with the best grandparents I could ever imagine. My grandma was pure love...for my grandpa, for her children, grandchildren, and great-children. And my grandpa was one of the absolute coolest people to ever live. He was a talker extraordinaire, but his stories were so interesting, and often hilarious as well. My brother and I loved going and spending time with them as kids.
I'm so grateful that my kids are blessed with wonderful grandparents as well!
Maxidoodle had the time of his life with his Grammy and Papa last week. He received 24/7 attention...and loved every second of it! They played games, they watched Cars (3 times), he helped Grammy take down Christmas decorations, he spent a lot of time working with Papa in the garage, they went to McDonalds, they went to TSC, they went to the grocery store, they built a tent, they built a Lego tractor, they drew cats. And amidst all this loving fun, Max learned to use the potty.
I don't even know how to express how big this is to all of us. We were truly beginning to think it was never going to happen. We had tried every trick in the book. Every bit of advice we could find. Nothing. For a long time, it was totally low-key. But lately we had tried to exert a bit more pressure. And of course, the whole thing turned into a battle. We were at our wits' end.
So we shipped him off to his grandparents. And let them work their magic.
Thanks Mom and Dad! And thanks to all the other grandparents out there for bringing magic to their grandchildren young and old!

Gee Debi what a perfect day for me to read your post. Today would have been my grandmother's 93rd birthday. I really miss her. I think there are parts of me that are so much like her and I wish she were around today. I am fortunate that she got to meet Timmy. It's wasn't long after he was born that she passed away.
I hope one day Mackenzie will say the same loving things about me. I will say that being a grandmother is just as magical :) :)
Again, I am pleased that the visit proved beneficial on the "potty" front.
take care,
Dawn
Oh, what wonderful grandparents! I have fond memories of my favorite grandmother. I would have done ANYTHING for her and I bet that's how Max feels already. That's why he learned to go potty for them. Congrats on the huge milestone! :)
