saying goodbye

Damn. I can't believe I had to say goodbye to Jericho...again. And this time, I don't see any way to raise it from its premature grave.

I think the way they ended it upset me nearly as much as the fact that they did end it. It's not that the story was bad. But they rushed to finish up, shoving what should have taken place over several episodes into a single one. It didn't feel at all like the Jericho I'd fallen in love with. I think the actors, the fans, the show itself, all deserved better.

It seems rather silly to be so heartbroken over a television show, I suppose. But I am.

GOOD STUFF

Jericho is back tonight! Oh, I am one happy camper...

Jericho Lives!

I cannot believe it! CBS really did reverse their decision to cancel Jericho! It might not last long if it's ratings don't improve...but at least there's a chance.

I must sound like a total dork, I know. But I watch very little TV anymore. I even quit watching 24 before the end of the season. Anyway, Jericho was my absolute favorite! (Even if I wasn't so sucked into the story, I'd probably watch just to see Skeet Ulrich! LOL) So I am one very happy camper about now!

And that concludes my idiotic babbling for now.

oh my gosh, oh my gosh, oh my gosh...

I'm absolutely giddy with excitement. Giddy, I tell you. Positively giddy! Rich just sent me an e-mail linked to an article stating that CBS is actually considering changing their minds and bringing Jericho back! Oh please, please, please...bring it back!

a growing addiction

I have been such a naughty, naughty girl today. I have spent far too much time at this computer. People aren't kidding when they say blogging can be addictive. Mostly I've been reading peoples Menu Plan Mondays and peoples Spring Reading Thing lists. Copied off a few recipes that sound particularly yummy and added several books that sounded good to my "someday" list.

I did get Annie through another school day (well, mostly...we're going to watch a video about the Grand Canyon here in a few minutes) and I did do four loads of laundry. But beyond that, I've accomplished very little. I didn't even cook supper, because Rich got a craving for Taco Bell and called to tell me he would be bringing supper home. Day 1 and I'm already blowing my menu plan. Not that I'm complaining, mind you.

Probably won't accomplish much this evening either. Rich and Annie are going to watch the annual migration of the Spotted, the Blue Spotted, and the Jefferson's salamanders. When conditions are right, they make their annual migration from their hibernaculum to their breeding pond. Rich thinks tonight may be optimal viewing. Annie's going with him, partly for fun, partly for school. (We're going to study amphibians in a few weeks.)

Anyway, I plan to get the boys to bed and then relax. (You know, because I'm so worn out from all the blogging!) I'll have to tape 24 for Rich tonight, but I'm going to watch...in desperate need of a fix. By the way, Stacy, if you're reading this, I wanted to let you know that you've started something. Even our kids call 24 "the Jack Bauer hour of power"...and I'll bet it's not just to our family that it's spread. Will probably work on Annie's hat while I watch, and maybe even try to fit in a few pages worth of reading during commercials.

Okay...it is now time to turn off the computer. Yes. Right this very minute.

Just Curious...

Annie and I somehow got on the subject of reading and TV watching. We agreed that although we enjoy reading and TV viewing, if forced to choose between the two, without question we'd say goodbye to the TV. I would probably miss TV more than Annie (she watches next to none as it is), but I would still find it easier to get rid of the old boob-tube than to give up books.

Just curious...
...which would you give up if forced to choose?

relaxation ahead

Well, I survived turning 43. And as usual, feel no different for the experience.

Spent much of yesterday in the car hauling the munchkins to my parents house. It's become somewhat of a tradition. Since my birthday always falls during winter break for both Rich and the kids, we take the little rascals to stay with their Grammy and Papa for a couple days, while Rich and I go off to relax. In the past, we have just stayed in a nearby hotel. Heavenly. Things were a bit more complicated this year, however, because of Baker. Didn't want to throw that extra responsibility on Mom and Dad. And figured that even if we found a hotel that would allow dogs, we'd be stuck in the room (if we left him alone in there he'd most likely bark at every little sound he heard). So, this year, we took the kiddos down, spent the afternoon with my parents, had a super yummy supper followed by cake and ice cream, and then headed home.

And we now have 2 whole days to ourselves before we head back to pick up the monkeys on Saturday. Wow. Two whole days. Already enjoying the time. Got up early and watched a cheesy made-for-TV crime drama on LMN. After we get dressed and ready for the day, we plan to head out and hit this great antique mall that's not too far from us. Oh, how we miss antiquing! Definitely not something we can do with the boys in tow. And I think we'll hit Chilis for lunch. Mmmmm...love their salsa...best we've been able to find since moving back north.

After that, well, we're playing it by ear. Ahhh, freedom.

counting those blessings

Sometimes it's the challenging days when you need to look for the good stuff the most, huh?

*fat-free French vanilla coffeemate

*the latest issue of Simple Scrapbooks in the mailbox

*Max's sheer joy over the fact that it's Wednesday (He loves Wednesday nights because Gray and Annie have swimming lessons, so he gets to have Mommy all to himself. So sweet!)

*Criminal Minds...am on pins and needles over what's going to happen...last episode was a doozy!

Yep, I really am feeling a little better.

more useless ramblings

Just a little of this and that...

*I cannot believe that I ever stopped watching Boston Legal. It may have the most brilliant writers in TV today. More than once last night I had tears rolling down my face from laughing so hard. (Dawn, I keep checking to see if you're going to put up your favorite quotes from last night's episode. Curious to see if you'll pick my favorite.)

*Finally added a few of Annie's recent poems to her blog. If anyone ever has a couple minutes, she loves to get comments. (Don't we all?) Thanks!

*I realized this morning that Valentines Day is only 2 weeks away...and I'm so not ready. Better get cards made soon, especially the ones that need mailed. Still need to pick up some odds and ends for Rich and the kids. Need to wrap all the gifts. Need to make a grocery list...special cupcakes for the both the boys' school parties and our traditional chocolate-dipped strawberries for Valentines breakfast and the traditional heart-shaped M&M pancakes for the kids' supper. Helping the kids make their Valentines for their classmates. Better get busy, I suppose.

*I simply cannot shake the chill today. It's actually not that cold today, low 20s. But the wind is really whipping around out there. Been home from picking Max up at preschool for 2 hours now, but still haven't managed to warm up.

Well, guess I've wasted enough time babbling on about nothing...so back to work I go.

re-addicted

I wrote yesterday about my big plan to start watching season one of 24 last night, while all the lucky people would be watching the current season premeire. It was my "anal tendencies" keeping me from just watching the current season premeire...telling myself that we would be so far behind and wouldn't understand what was happening and blah, blah, blah. (Don't know why I have this strong obsession with doing all things in order, but I am working hard to "loosen up".)

But Stacy wrote and urged us to just watch the current season. She assured us that we wouldn't be lost. We decided to take her advice. And we're NOT sorry we did! I think it's safe to say that we are already re-addicted. I have to say that it was a little weird that Jack was the ONLY character we knew from that first season (at least the only one that either of us remembered). And we'll still go back and try to catch all the previous seasons when we get the chance, but for now...well, one more "must see" show has been added to our weekly line-up!

Thanks, Stacy!

perpetually lagging behind

Seems to be me. Never quite up-to-date.

Tonight is the big season premiere of 24. But I can't watch it. I've been in a self-imposed moratorium for years...

The first season it came on, we watched from the first episode. We were completely, totally, entirely, undeniably hooked! Lived for it every week. Then about half-way through the season I got pregnant with Max. I realize that doesn't really sound like a problem. But I'm really lousy at being pregnant. And my first problem is always hyperemesis gravidarum. (Sort of like morning sickness on steriods. The only effective weight loss program for me.) Anyway, by six weeks, I was to the point where I simply couldn't move and couldn't stand to see anything else move. Hence, no TV for the next few months. Hence, total loss of the rest of that first season of 24.

As the following seasons rolled around, I wouldn't let myself watch, figuring I wouldn't get all that was going on. Kept telling myself I needed to catch up with reruns first. Which of course, never happened. And here I am, how many seasons behind? Five?

For Christmas, I asked Rich for the first season on DVD. And being the sweet fellow he is, he came through. Hopefully, I can get the second season for my birthday. And slowly, slowly, maybe I can finally get caught up.

We plan to start tonight...figured that would be appropriate. We can watch with everyone else tonight--we'll just be living in the past.
